Coneflower No. 3 with Bee Watercolor Pencils and Micron Pens
2.5 x 3.5 ATC Format
Drawing July 2009
We have a beautiful Purple Coneflower in our front flowerbed. Although we are in Tennessee this is not the native Coneflower in our area. The native plant is endangered and lives in areas like our Flat Rock Ceder Glades and Barrens Natural Area that is a short drive from our house.
Some alternative names for the Conflower are Echinacea, snakeroot, Indian head, and hedge hog. This is information from the US Department of Agriculture.
PS: I have become a little obsessed with bees lately.

This is the time of year to be obsessed with bees Judy. They are all over the place wriggling into blooms spreading pollen all around. Such fun to see. You captured the cone flower and bee so well. I would love to have one of your ATCs. I must get busy and make some for trade.
Lisa, tell me which one you like and I will put in the mail this weekend. I went through your blog for the last few months and downloaded some of the photos to draw for you. I was taken with the poor turtle covered with mosquitoes. How very sad. But it sure is a great photograph. Take care, Judy
Oh, these are beautiful!!!!!!!! I love each one. Those bees add so much to the composition.
Good to see you feeling back to normal.
That is because you are as artistically as "busy as a bee"...Hee Hee HO Ho! ...:)
they are wonderful. I didn't know that's what echinacea comes from. I want to trade too, but I need to build up my selection....you can't assume everyone wants a picture of my dog. ha ha
