Daisies with New WaterColor kit

This painting done with my new watercolor travel kit on 90 lb. cold press paper. This is also a new pad of paper I am not used to--it came with the watercolor travel kit. I was experimenting with the paint and the paper.

This was done of our little yellow daisies that bloomed non stop all summer. They finally got nipped from our frost the first week in December. Unheard of to have flowers blooming in the last month of the year. Usually we have the first hard freeze in mid- October.

I rarely do paintings without a pencil drawing. But did this one without a preliminary sketch. After the first light pigment wash was dry I used Lw Plume felt waterproof felt markers to do the outling and squiggly lines. Then came back with a second and third wash of darker shading colors. 90 lb. paper is very sensitive to water so the washes had to be very light or the paper wrinkles.

My new chemotherapy medicine has helped the numbness in my fingers making my control of the brush much easier. I have several sketches underway and now hope to finish these soon.

  1. Yipee for good meds. Love this sketch. I can see that the colors are a little stronger than you normally use. They are gorgeous.

  2. Lisa, thanks so much. Yes, I will take a photo of this new little travel kit. It is essentially primary colors arranged in a color wheel. Some what opaque. I am still getting used to it and experimenting. Used it on the Holiday tags where the bring colors were just what was needed. Judy
